I AM LONGING FOR THAT BREATH OF LIFE, THE SCENT OF YOU, THAT DRAGS ME INTO YOUR PERFECT SILHOUETTE.

The human sense of smell is a direct pathway to the Limbic system in the brain, mysterious and intense. Laden with desire-like cravings, these sensations are recorded by the amygdala (emotion) and the hippocampus (memory). Few things are as worthy of being remembered as scents. You and I are but its covert intermediaries, attempting to evoke strong emotions and memories within your brain.

Experimental Dance Theatre       50 min       2016

This work weaves the actor’s monologue with the expressive qualities of scent, while the dancer’s body constructs the very forms of fragrance—awakening, diffusing, and sealing chapters that speak of intimate memories. Through the imagery of water, smoke, and mist, the weight of scent is rendered visible. As the dampness and odors permeating the space are layered through multiple imaginations, the process of sensory exploration gives rise to an utterly private and sublime atmosphere.
